Divorce Mediation

Divorce Mediation is a process in which Mike or Hellen acts as a neutral guide and facilitator for the parties in their negotiations, providing settlement options to help them resolve conflicts, and come to agreements on all issues associated with their marriage, including custody, property, and support issues.  This occurs in a comfortable and confidential environment, for a fraction of the price of litigating in Court.

Divorce Mediation developed in response to the emotional and financial damage to families caused by litigation.  Mediation brings people together with a neutral third party (the Mediator), whose job is to facilitate communication, help the parties develop creative settlement options, and guide them to solve problems involving custody, property, and support issues.  Mediation occurs in a relaxed, confidential, and comfortable environment, not a courtroom, and typically takes several sessions to complete.  In Mediation, the Mediator does not act as the advocate or attorney for either party.  Rather, all decisions are made by the mutual agreement of both parties.  In this way, solutions can be developed so that both parties receive a transparent and fair result in the final agreement.  For some people who have recently separated, it may be difficult to believe that mutual agreement, on anything, could occur, but the Mediation process really does work.  It's the most affordable divorce process available, and we prepare all of the filings required by the Court to process your Dissolution (or Legal Separation) to completion.

If your marriage or relationship is ending, and you don't want the Court to determine who "wins" and who "loses", Mediation may be an effective process to help you and your spouse come to a mutually beneficial agreement.

Mediation is not the right choice for everyone.  In situations involving domestic violence, or other situations in which a "level playing field" for negotiations cannot be established by the mediator, Mediation is not appropriate, and other processes, such as Collaborative Practice, should be considered.

If you want to know whether Mediation is the appropriate process for you, please schedule an appointment to discuss.
